Project ‘Smart HWCs’

ALVL Foundation has partnered with the Government to develop existing primary health facilities as a demonstration model of ‘Smart Health and Wellness Centres (Smart HWCs)’ to deliver Comprehensive Primary Healthcare.

Currently, the Foundation is supporting 50 Smart HWCs in Almora District, Uttarakhand:

MoU with NHM Uttarakhand for 7 NHM-PHC HWCs + 40 SHC-HWCs under PHCs
MoU with Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India and Dept. of Ayurveda and Unani Services, Govt. of Uttarakhand for 3 AYUSH HWCs

Key Areas of Intervention:

Provision of Essential Diagnostic Services in line with the National Essential Diagnostics List published by ICMR in 2019 and Free Diagnostics Initiative
Strengthening referral linkages via Telemedicine
Developing a Community Driven Health and Wellness Model
Capacity Building of Healthcare Workforce to deliver CPHC
Leveraging Digital Health Technologies to deliver CPHC to make quality primary health services more efficient, accessible and affordable

Supporting our partner HWCs in COVID-19 Response

PPEs for the last mile Health Workers during COVID-19

As the second wave of COVID peaked in the country during April-June 2021, ALVL Foundation fulfilled the requirements of its 10 partner HWCs and community health workers attached to the HWCs, by providing essential supplies and protective equipment, including:

Supporting the COVID-19 Vaccination drive at Haidakhan Hospital, in Chilianaula, Ranikhet, in association with Tarikhet Primary Health Centre-Health and Wellness Centre (PHC-HWC)
Administering Covaxin (for 18+ years) and Covishield (for 45+ years), since 15 May 2021
5800+ doses administered
Remote Satellite Camps arranged in villages in Tarikhet Block like Chaukuni and Mauna
Recognized by sub-district authorities and local residents as one of the most seamlessly run Vaccination Site

Supporting Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune

ALVL Foundation has an MoU with AFMC (Armed Forces Medical College) Pune to support AFMC in various activities, including:

Upgrading AFMC Rural Health and Training Centre (RHTC) in Kasurdi Village, Daund Tehsil, Pune:
Serving a population of approx. 3,000, where the nearest Govt. PHC is 15Km away. ALVLF supported:
- renovation of the health centre and anganwadi centre,
- implementation of preventive and promotive healthcare
- addressing wider determinants of health- Potable drinking water, sanitation, personal hygiene, etc
R&D and promoting innovations in healthcare
Outreach activities to augment Alumni programme- events, seminar and student-alumni interactions
Scholarships to students for learning opportunities in healthcare as well as extra-curriculars like sports, dramatics, etc.

Weekly specialist medical services by AFMC Specialists from various fields, including Medicine, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Dental, Ophthalmology, Dermatology and ENT
In-house diagnostics facility for CBC, PBSMP, LFT, RFT, Lipid Profile, Urine RE/ME, HBA1C, Thyroid profile, HIV, HBSAg, HCV, etc
-2x increase in OPD footfall, nearly 4,500 OPD visits per year
Robust referral system implemented to ensure comprehensive and specialized care for its patients, with the help of the Command Hospital Southern Command (CHSC), AFMC Dental Center, and the Army Institute of Cardio-Thoracic Sciences (AICTS). Nearly 130 patients referred for specialist care per year

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Centre and Digital Radiology Centre at 403 Field Hospital, Siachen

“World’s Highest Altitude Hyperbaric Treatment Centre” at 10000 ft-

”Siachen Glacier, located at an altitude of about 18,000 ft, is the world’s highest battlefield and holds significant importance for India, taking care of its Northern Borders. The Indian Army took control of Siachen in 1984 and since then our soldiers are deployed in the glacier defying the challenges of isolation from civilisation, sub-zero temperatures, avalanches and blizzards. The temperature in Siachen can even drop to minus 70 degrees Celsius in peak winters. Also, the oxygen level at such altitude is as low as 10% of that at sea level. Limb- and Life-threatening conditions due to Hypoxia, i.e., low oxygen content in the air, and Hypothermia, i.e., extremely cold temperatures, are commonly encountered in the Glacier.

As the only hospital in such a remote and extreme location, the 403 Field Hospital (popularly known as Siachen Hospital) serves not only the troops deployed at Siachen, but also the local civilians, tourists and ex-servicemen. To better equip the hospital in treating limb- and life-threatening conditions due to Hypoxia and Hypothermia, ALVL Foundation has set-up a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Centre and a Digital Radiology Centre at the Hospital.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Chambers are specialized equipment used for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), which is the medical use of oxygen at an ambient pressure higher than the atmospheric pressure. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is used to speed up healing of tissues that are starved for oxygen. Timely use of HBOT in high altitude and cold related injuries and conditions can be ‘limb and life saving’.
